Living in Joy

I love this photo of my son Hudson last year in Bali. To me this is the full body expression of joy. No-one taught it to him, he didn’t have to practice it, he just is full joy. Joy and happiness is our birth rite but we get talked out of it by a society that preaches “No Pain No Gain” and “Life’s tough”.

Did you know that when you’re conceived there’s an explosion of oxytocin, the happy hormone. This hormone continues to flood a mothers body through the birthing process. So we’re literally  born into a cocktail of happiness, joy and love…it only makes sense that life intends us to live in this state too.

So what do we do if we’re feeling unhappy?
I’m still working this out, however my solution so far is to stop thinking the thoughts that make me feel unhappy. I’ve also found that gratitude helps, nothing like a good dose of appreciating what you have to put you in a good mood. If we allow ourselves it can be as easy as flicking a switch and then continually choosing those positive thoughts until they become second nature.
